Commission R&D chief sets out plan for tenfold increase in controversial funding method by 2027

A huge expansion in the use of the controversial lump-sum funding method is being planned for Horizon Europe, as the European Commission strives to slash the number of errors in grant administration for the EU research and innovation programme.

Despite complaints from university groups, the Commission wants half of all R&I money handed out by the programme to be lump sums by 2027, up from 5 per cent at the moment.
